Edouard and Ginette Lagane were native Tamarinians who 40 years ago opened their home to the first visitors of Tamarin: the surfers. Following surfer as well as family tradition, their son has enlarged the place subsequently: today Chez Jacque (Jacques' Place).
Jacques Lagane One can easily say that the legends ranking around Tamarin and Jacque's place are intimately linked; as it was Jacque's parents who owned the first bed and breakfast on the spot.
Edouard and Ginette Lagane were native Tamarinians who 40 years ago opened their home to the original visitors of Tamarin: the surfers.
Following in their footsteps, their son not only took over their business, but also was very actively engaged in the culture of his little town. Surfing was his great passion and he was instrumental in building up the first surf school in Tamarin, a colourful and lively thing that unified interested kids in the real first rainbow group and took place mostly at the beach. Rumours have it, that a particular minister was eager to close down the school terming it "a breeding place for a bunch of radical hippies". But he was stopped from doing so by his own son, who was a part of the group.
Today, Jacques is no longer an active surfer, but still calls the beach his second home and has made himself a reputation as a musician: he plays a mean guitar and knows many famous island musicians who drop by at his place for a drink and a jam session regularly.
Jacques aims to keep the original spirit of Tamarin alive at his place which he shares so generously with his visitors.
